Description
This is a fine and rare 18th Century antique mahogany Chippendale tripod table with bird cage action. The edge of the top carved with ribbons and flowers, the stem fluted and carved with a twist, the leg carved with acanthus leaf terminating in a claw and ball foot. A similar example from the period can be found in Arthur Negus book ,Going for a Song: English Furniture, page 119 plate 56. See image opposite. It is a rare sight to see a table of this quality especially one with a carved edge to the top. As you would expect with such a fine table it is heavy when lifted due to the quality of the timbers used.
