Item of The Week - Childs Spinning Wheel c.1880

When you think of Antiques, you’re likely to think of all the popular types of antiques; Antique Furniture, Antique Ceramics, Antique Silver & Antique Art, but how often do you think of Antiques for Children? You’d be forgiven for saying ‘hardly ever’ but of course, there are still a vast amount of children’s antiques available. And this one really caught our eye:

This 19th Century Child's Spinning Wheel is a superb example of the kind of products produced during Victorian times. With its finely turned fruitwood body and its brass wheel, this makes for a fascinating piece dating from 1880, and is believed to be of Continental origin. The detailing of it and the craftsmanship is something to behold.

It is unclear as to whether this was made as an exhibition piece or if it was indeed used by children, as it is in excellent condition and displays the most wonderful colour over its entirety, despite being around 138 years old. The only noted default is that the spigot is missing its teeth.

So, if your children are in to playing Princes and Princesses then perhaps you could help bring their imagination to life and let this spinning wheel take pride of place in their playroom; and whilst it’s doubtful that like Sleeping Beauty, they will prick their finger on it and fall under a spell, resulting in a 100 year long snooze, we’re sure this would encourage hours of role-play and fun. Alternatively, you could simply keep it as a decorative, statement item to have in the home or indeed in a shop space.

This fantastic antique is being sold by Michael Armson Antiques Ltd for £690
