Item of The Week - Antique Silver Nurses Buckle

It seems only fitting that with the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (The NHS) celebrating its 70th Birthday this week, we bring you this Antique Edwardian Scottish Thistle Sterling Silver Nurses Buckle, as our ‘Item of The Week.’

Nurses buckles were used back in 19th/20th Century by registered Nurses as the only personalised part of their uniform and were attached to a belt at the font of their uniform. They came in various eye-catching designs and were typically quite detailed. They would have added a beautiful touch to a somewhat plain and conservative uniform.

This particular buckle boasts the most wonderful fret cut and pierced thistle motifs to both halves of the buckle and displays superb detailing over its entirety. It is made from Sterling Silver, is Hallmarked Birmingham Assay Office and dates from 1902. The Dealer selling this item notes that it carries the Silversmiths mark for ‘C.E. Williams’.

Nowadays, these buckles make for the perfect Graduation gift for newly qualified Nurses and with various designs available for purchase on the Antique Market, you can choose one to suit the intended recipient. The Scottish design is sure to please whether it be for a true Celt or simply a Nurse who appreciates a pretty and unique gift. Whomever you buy it for, it is bound to please.

This Nurses Buckle is being sold by Century Antiques for £95
