Item of The Week - Carl Thieme Set of 6 Dresden Reticulated Dessert Plates

It’s likely that at some point in your life you have collected something, whether it be dolls or trains as a child, or ornaments or magazines as an adult; we’re all guilty of having some sort of collection.  But it goes without saying that one of the most popular things to collect is antique porcelain/china, perhaps as it comes in such a tremendous array of colours, styles & designs & make for eye-catching displays.

For this weeks Item of The Week, we have selected a highly sought after ‘type’ of collectable; a set of antique plates, but not any old plates, these pretty and rather unusual plates are in fact Carl Thieme Dresden Dessert plates, and as you will see, there are 6 in this beautiful set.  Dating from 1900, these are in excellent condition and have withstood the test of time with no chips, cracks or restoration!

Any collector of Carl Thieme porcelain will appreciate the skill that would have gone in to crafting these plates, and the beauty of them is that they have been individually hand painted, so you won’t find 2 the same. This particular set may look very similar in appearance, but each colourful floral pattern is different.

Of course, it is up to you if you use these plates for their intended purpose, which was of course, to serve dessert on, or if you decide to simply have them on display as is often a popular choice for collectables; whatever you choose, they are bound to delight.  Personally, we think that they would make the most wonderful addition to an Afternoon Tea setting, particularly as the floral design would blend in fabulously with the ever increasingly popular vintage floral themes commonly used for Afternoon Tea parties.

This Fabulous Victorian Dessert Set is being sold by Mynster Antiques for £425.
