Item of The Week - Georgian Secretaire Chest

The Christmas decorations have been packed away, the copious amounts of festive food and drinks have been devoured and once again, we welcome in another new year. Now, we’re not sure about you but for most people, January is the month for ‘having a sort out’ and preparing for the year ahead and what better way to start than to de-clutter and get organised, and we may have the perfect item to help get you started.

This Georgian Secretaire Chest is a beauty and is full of drawers and compartments for you to hide away all of your paperwork, keys, address books and other odds and ends. It dates from c.1800 and is a combination of 3 long drawers on the lower section and a wonderful desk drawer on the upper. The desk drawer drops down to reveal a superb selection of partitions and a further 7 drawers (one lockable), along with an ‘up and over’ door revealing yet another cubby hole.

The chest and drawer fronts are crafted from mahogany whilst the lining of the drawers are made up of ash and pine. The drawer fronts are fitted with the original gilt brass drop handles that sit centrally within two oval panels of figured mahogany that are cross banded and ebony strung, and the interior has a baize covered writing surface.

So, this fantastic multipurpose piece of antique furniture acts not only as a great storage unit but also as a hidden workspace, what’s not to love about it? Don’t hesitate, make this yours now and let it be the first step in getting organised in 2019.
