Description

The Life and Adventures of Don Quixote de la Manche. A new edition with engravings from designs by Richard Westall. Complete in 4 volumes.

Printed for Hurst, Robinson, and Co. 1820.

Declaration

Slade's Antiques has clarified that the Don Quixote, 4 Vol. leather-bound set with Robert Westall engravings (17032 / LA126714) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1820.

Condition

Overall in poor condition and in need of repair. The leather bindings are original but are badly damaged. The front boards of volume one and two is detached but present, as is the second front endpaper of volume one. There is a piece missing from the spine of volume two - this is present inside the book. The bindings are badly scuffed and worn around the edges and have some losses. There is some marking to the endpapers, which look to have had something (possibly bookplates) removed at some point. There is some tanning to the pages and some scattered foxing (brown spotting) internally.
