These extremely rare carved Pagan Gods originate from the last Pagan stronghold of the Novgorod Republic (1136 A.D-1478 A.D). A medieval east Slavic state located at the gulf of Finland and the western edge of Russia populated by Slavic, Baltic and Finnic people strongly influenced by the Viking and Slavic Gods. In 1478 A.D the Novgorod Republic fell to invading Russian Muscovite forces, bringing Orthodox Christianity to the region, after which all the Viking /Slavic Pagan fittings and carvings were replaced with Russian Orthodox Iconography making these extremely rare survivors from the medieval period of Pagan worship.
