Description
A mid 19th century German mahogany oval extending centre table.
The table can take up to five extra leaves and could seat 14 people.
The table has a hand written label under the central block stating it was made on 3rd November 1861 by C Rathenau who was an apprentice in Bremen but came from Husum near the Danish border.
The table has a central platform base and when the top is opened it exposes a rack of pine runners that slide open to hold 1-5 leaves.
Between the pine runners that is a storage box that holds four screw on legs for support when the table is extended.
The table has five matching solid mahogany leaves which are replacement s made from 19th century mahogany.
This type of table might have had pine leaves that would have been covered with a cloth when used.
The table is in good condition, the brass casters under the central platform base are replacements. (Circa 1861)
