This northern Thai bronze dates to the 16th century and originates from the Indianized state of the Lan Na Kingdom. The state was heavily influenced by the Sukhothai Kingdom to the south and India to the north west. This bronze Buddha perfectly illustrates the fusion of India (third eye chakra) Sukhothai ( sanghati sash ) and the lotus throne typical of the northern Thai style of Lan Na.
This bronze Buddha is seated in the subduing mara pose. This bronze has a fabulous patina and is an excellent example of Buddhist art from the historical Lan Na Kingdom.

the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 16th century A.D.
condition
This Buddha has an amazing patina. It has three small casting flaws as expected with a bronze of this age. Also one pin hole to the rear of the lotus throne. Again age related. No cracks, good solid condition.
