This is a most handsome mid 18th Century English Oak Dresser and Rack; a stylishly understated piece of provincial Georgian Oak furniture dating to about 1740. It is of pegged tenon framed construction, has 3 deep drawers to the base, and well balanced turned legs with pad feet. The deeply swept 'shoes' which take the rack are original and finely constructed as a fixture to the base. The rack, with its nicely profiled scalloped sides, sits in the shoes of the base to complete a very pleasing overall designed piece of furniture of excellent proportions. It has 3 shelves with retaining grooves for plates and a well shaped canopy and cornice - all original. Constructed from straight grain English oak, the dresser has a glorious nut brown colour. The handles are original, swan neck brass bails. The back boards are original.
