19th Century Oak Lambing Chair with Wings & Drawer

A splendid 19th century oak lambing chair, this is a substantial piece with a good size seat and a great storage drawer underneath. It will make a cosy place to nestle by the fire, with the wings keeping draughts away. Lambing chairs originate from the sheep farming regions of Northern England and are said to have been for shepherds to use while the lambing was underway, with the drawer underneath for warming newborns. - Removable upholstered seat with a recent cream linen cover over which a cushion can be placed. - Wide comfortable seat. - Shaped arms with good rests. - Panelled. - Large storage drawer in the side. - Small bun feet. In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. The webbing beneath the upholstered pad is loose.
