19th Century Samson Porcelain Cherub or Putti Figurine, Gold Anchor Mark

This is a very attractive porcelain figurine of putti or cherub winged infant. This figurine is of very good quality with sharply molded, crisp decoration throughout. The Figure has the Gold Anchor mark, see the photograph. These figures were made originally by the English factories of Chelsea and Derby in the last half of the 18th century. Both these factories had a gold anchor mark. However, they were also made and copied by other English and a few European factories, towards the end of the 18th century and during the 19th century. We believe this piece to be from the French porcelain factory of Edmé Samson (b Paris, 1810; d Paris, 1891), founder of the ceramics firm Samson, Edmé et Cie, commonly known as Samson Ceramics. The figurine has a gold Anchor mark painted on the rear. We date this piece to the mid-19th century, circa 1860.
