Edward Brannan was born in 1884 and was educated at the Lincoln School of art. After graduating he taught art privately until the first World War when he enlisted in the Artists Rifles. On his return from France he resumed teaching but no longer found this to his satisfaction. He then decided to earn his living as a professional artist with some personal students. He had numerous one man shows and his paintings are in the collections in Britain and America. After his death a posthumous retrospective of his paintings was held at the Usher Gallery in Lincoln. One work is dated 1928 and the other would appear to be from the same period.
