Description
Mieczysław Lurczyński (St. Petersburg 1907 - Paris. 1992), painter, poet, writer, playwright He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. During the war he was a joined the Polish home guard but was arrested and imprisoned in Warsaw. From there he was deported to Majdanek camp, then to Buchenwald, from where he escaped back to the front line. After the war he settled in Hannover, where in 1945 he co-founded the Publishing House of the Union of Forced Exiles. From 1949 he lived in Paris and worked with Stanisław Eleszkiewicz. He then travelled to Algeria, Morocco, Spain. He was captivated by the landscape and light there, painting many landscapes, cityscapes and figurative works. These two fine drawings date from the mid 1960's.
