An Unusual 19th Century Country Armchair
Secure Payments By
An unusual 19th-century English country armchair. The lightweight and slender design show the skill and the craftsmanship of chair making during this period. The bentwood arms joined into the uprights of the back show an unusual array of spindles forming a gallery, almost in the design of tuning keys of a stringed instrument. The very fine saddle seat is supported by finely turned legs and dual stretchers. The chair has got an old split in the seat with an old repair to strengthen the seat underneath, this however does not affect the chair at all, it is still very usable. The chair has a number impressed under the seat but unfortunately, there are no maker's initials or names. This is an interesting chair indeed, possibly musically related. The colour and patination are superb and the chair is in very good condition for its age and design.
