Antique Footlight Housing, Colour Filter Box, Stage Light,

Rare early 20th Century wooden theatre stage light housing, sometimes referred to as a footlight or colour filter box. It is constructed from dark stained oak with a gently tapering form, broader at the base and narrowing towards the top. The front features a hinged glazed door fitted with two coloured glass filters — one deep red which can be removed and one amber — that would have been used to alter the tone of the stage lighting. The slanted design allowed it to project light upwards when placed at stage level, hanging up or on a lighting stand. The housing retains a good structural condition showing age and use consistent with its theatrical purpose. Small brass fittings, and keyhole but sadly the lock is missing on the front panel, and the original light is missing as well ! A fine example of early stagecraft equipment, this piece combines functional design with rich period character from early 20th-century theatres. 42cm in height Base is 32cm by 36.5cm Top is 20cm by 36.5cm ♻️ we care about our little planet and use recycled boxes ♻️
