Antique Gold Mourning Locket, Victorian

A sumptuous antique, Victorian era gold mourning locket. Rich old 9ct yellow gold, heavily engraved back and front with black enamel detailing to the front. It features a fleur-de-lis, picked out in black enamel with In Memory Of spelled out within, the fleur-de-lis is encased by a black enamel shield. Within the locket there are two compartments to hold hair or photographs. It is a fairly weighty little locket for its size, very well made. The sentiment of Victorian jewellery is epitomised not least in their mourning pieces and this pretty locket is no exception. Unmarked, late Victorian era, tests as 9ct gold, English make. Condition: Good used condition overall with minor signs of age and use, glazed panels have been replaced inside, the locket is very stiff to open.
