Description
Antique large kitsch fantasy oil painting looking through the keyhole at woman in boudoir signed H Zatzka 1 of 2. Austrian, circa 1920s. Signed by the artist, Hans Zatzka. A bit about the artist: "Hans Zatzka (8 March 1859 – 17 December 1945 or 1949) was an Austrian Academic and fantasy painter. He has sometimes been known as P. Ronsard, Pierre de Ronsard, or H. Zabateri, and signed many of his works as Joseph Bernard, J. Bernard, or Bernard Zatzka. The purpose of Zatzka's vast array of pseudonyms was to avoid penalties of breaking contracts which limited the amount of artwork he could sell. This has caused some art databases to conflate Zatzka's work under the pseudonym Joseph Bernard with the French sculptor with the same name. Many of Zatzka's works were religious paintings and altar pieces dedicated to various churches in Austria. However, he is more known for his paintings of women, fairies, and other fantastical scenes. Often, he would draw inspiration from the works of Richard Wagner and the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm" (Wikipedia). Oil on board. Size of frame: 31.5 x 23.25 inches. Size of painting: 28.5 x 20.25 inches. Weight: 2.5 kg (allow 10 kg volumetric weight once packed). Please note that if postage comes to less than quoted, I will send you a refund for any overpayment. This is a large painting and we have to allow for adequate packaging and a strong box. You are most welcome to collect from my home in Brockley, SE London if you are near (obviously preferred). I have another keyhole painting by the same artist - listed separately. Please contact me if you are interested in both paintings.
