Victorian Sterling silver Antique pastry fork with beautiful Mother of pearl handle. C ~1845. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures - was extremely difficult to photograph). Measures; 14cm / 5 1/2' length and weighs a heavy 21 grams. Wonderfully adorned with a crisp and bright Rococo revival, slightly raised Victorian scroll and leaf decoration. Attractive Mother of pearl handle with lovely scrolling to each end which is in amazing condition with no chips or cracks. Fully and clearly hallmarked within recessed different shaped cartouches with the young head of Queen Victoria, Crown (Sheffield assay), Lion Passant (Sterling silver) and fancy capital letter B - dating it to 1845. Also clearly carries the makers initials (within a recessed double circle cartouche); A.H. - Aaron Hadfield (one of the leading Victorian silver cutlery makers) who was first registered in Sheffield 1818. Both sides are free from any inscriptions or initials. Excellent clean and bright condition with no indentations, just a few very light and fine little surface scratches (mainly to the ends of the tines) and just a tiny bit of age patina (showing under eyeglass only) - all commensurate with age.
