Listing Title: Att: William Boyce (1857-1911) 19thc Sailing Smack Seascape Watercolour Painting Brief Description A wonderful all-original late 19th Century British Seascape Watercolour Painting depicting a sailing smack in rough seas, with a brig and schooner on the Horizon, surrounded by an expansive and very rough sea. Attributed to: William Thomas Nichol Boyce (1857-1911). One of a matching pair which are selling individually, and mounted within the truly outstanding original gesso scrolled gilt & glazed frame. Attributes: Watercolour on Paper Attrib: 'William Thomas Nichol Boyce' (1857-1911) Circa: 1890-1900 William Boyce - William Thomas Nichol Boyce (1857-1911). Marine and landscape painter in oil and watercolour. Originally from Norfolk, he moved to South Shields in 1872. He became apprentice joiner and later worked in a draper shop before becoming a full-time artist. He worked far more often in watercolour and there are more examples of watercolour work than oil. Boyce exhibited at the South Shields Art Club, The Berwick Art Club, Newcastle and from 1905 until his death at South Shields the Artists of Northern Counties exhibitions at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Three pieces of his work were included in the "1300th Festival - 19th Century Artists exhibition at the Sunderland Art Gallery in 1974.
