Description
A wonderful glazed stoneware garden bowl by the Leeds Fireclay Co (LEFCO) on a fluted pedestal which could easily be used either as a birdbath or as a garden fountain. The dish, which has a rim, can be removed from the hollow pedestal, so that piping can be inserted through for a water feed. If filling to use as a birdbath, it would require a plug of some kind to cover the hole in the centre. The piece has two stylized roses at the top of the pedestal, beneath the bowl.
Dating to circa 1910, this is made of glazed stoneware and originates from England.
In good condition, consistent with age and use in a garden setting, this has a variety of chips and wear, as would be expected. There is area inside the bowl where the glaze has chipped away and there is some vertical cracking on the pedestal which looks like it may have been repaired, but the piece stands solidly, is serviceable and has the character required for use in a traditional garden setting.
