Description
This blacksmith made forged iron harpoon head dates to the early 19th century. The whaling industry produced whale oil for lamps and in the production of soap. The oil was also used in candle production. Corsets used whale bone to form its frame and gives it rigidity. A good example of an artefact from the historical English whaling industry.
