Edward H.Thompson 1879-1949.Born in Cumbria and went against the wishes of his parents to become a painter.In his lifetime he painted as many as ten thousand paintings and most of them of the Lake District.Around 1924,he started using the name of Donald Paton for some of his works and by 1926 he had moved to Routenbeck near Bassenenthwaite.In 1928,the family moved for the final time to Ruddings where he produced his most prolific and probably,y his best work.In the ear,y 1930 he was approached by Valentines Dundee to produce paintings for picture postcards and,from the 1940s,calandars,the last which was a series of country cottages in 1949.’The Jaws of Borrowdale ,Derwentwater from the East of Friars Crag’ and ‘ Eventide,Rydal Water’ pair signed watercolours,each dated 1924 and inscribed with titles verso; each image size 20x30 cms,framed size 39.5x47 cms.They have both been professionally cleaned by my restorer and reframed with wash line mounts.
