Description
This exceptional silver card case, elaborately decorated with scrolls, leaves and flowers, carries a hallmark for Birmingham 1893. You will see that it has a leather interior with a pencil and compartments for cards and stamps. It comes in a Mappin & Webb box that appears to be the original holder. The card case is in very good condition with no sign of wear or damage and the cartouche is clear. The leather interior is lightly stained as you will see in the images but perfectly acceptable. The accompanying M&W box is in fair to good condition and has taken the years of wear, protecting the case. The interior lifting ribbon is in place however whilst the box closes to it does not snap shut. The case itself on the other hand has a strong hinge and a satisfying snap clasp, opening and closing well. You will see from the images that it will accommodate modern plastic cards in addition to calling/business cards. It measures 100mm wide, 70mm deep and 143m wide when opening flat. An impressive item originating from an excellent retailer.
