Description
A superb and extremely rare set of twelve silver knives, dating from the Georgian period. The handles are hallmarked silver with squared corners and reeded panels. The size suggests that these were a set of six dinner knives and six entrée/cheese/dessert knives. Georgian knives are rarely found, as the early blades were steel and consequently corroded over time. The blades have been replaced at some point with stainless steel, making this wonderful set once again usable. There is a handsome engraved crest to all twelve knives. A wonderful and practical addition to an antique silver flatware canteen. Maker :- Samuel Penbeton. Length :- 25.7 cms. (dinner knives). 21 cms. (entree knives). Width :- 2.2 cms. (widest point - dinner knives). 1.9 cms. (widest point - entree knives). Depth :- 1.2 cms. (dinner knives). 1 cm. (entree knives).
