Description
A fine late 18th century George III period mahogany tilt-top dining or breakfast table, in the Chippendale taste. This high-quality example features an oblong top of richly figured mahogany with a finely thumb-moulded edge. The top is supported by a hinged tilt mechanism, fitted with a brass lock to secure the top when upright and double brass catches to hold it firm when horizontal. The elegant ring-turned stem rises from a well-proportioned base of four carved and reeded legs, each terminating in finely cast, original brass paw feet castors. A particularly attractive and well-crafted table of excellent colour and patina, displaying all the hallmarks of quality late 18th century cabinetmaking.
