Description
Fine quality Antique Sheraton period inlaid mahogany pembroke table having a quality mahogany top beautifully crossbanded in satinwood, two oval drop leaves, one drawer and one dummy drawer to the frieze with original brass handles. It stands on four square tapering legs with original brass castors. A very appealing example boasting a pleasing colour and in lovely original condition Sheraton is a late 18th-century Neoclassical English furniture style, in vogue c. 1785–1820, that was coined by 19th-century collectors and dealers to credit English furniture designer Thomas Sheraton (1751 – 22 October 1806) who was one of the "big three" English furniture makers of the 18th century, along with Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite.[2] Sheraton gave his name to a style of furniture characterised by a feminine refinement of late Georgian styles and became the most powerful source of inspiration behind the furniture of the late 18th century.
