Description
This very attractive French silver cake slice, or dessert spoon, features an embossed silver handle and a silver gilt blade. The French silver mark showing the head of Minerva is stamped on the handle where it joins the blade. The stamp fails to show the fineness of the silver, whether it is 925 parts per 1000, or 800 parts per 1000, so I will assume 800 parts per 1000. The blade is decorated with hand engraved lines to the outer edge that were done before it was gilded, and it also carries the makers stamp for Auguste Girard of Paris. The length is 300 mm (11.75 inches) and it weighs 122 gms (3.9 troy ounces). It is in very good condition and would date from around 1900.
