Description
18th Century (c.1750) George II antique mahogany bachelor’s chest of drawers with tooled green leather skiver brushing slide. A fine George II period mahogany bachelor’s chest of drawers of small proportions. The oblong, solid mahogany top is beautifully figured and finished with a moulded edge. Beneath is a pull-out brushing slide inset with a traditional green leather hide skiver, decorated with a tooled and gilt border, and fitted with small brass knob handles. Below are four full-width, graduated drawers with moulded edges, brass double swan-neck handles, oval plate escutcheons, and locks. The chest stands on a moulded base and shaped bracket feet. The oak-lined drawers feature bases running front to back, typical of 18th-century cabinetmaking practice. A quality piece throughout, this chest is in good working order and well presented. It has been carefully serviced in our workshop, sensitively cleaned, and wax polished — now very much ready for use.
