Description
George II–III Mahogany Wrythen-Turned Tripod Supper Table, c.1760 A fine mid-18th century George II–III transitional mahogany tripod supper table, circa 1760, fashioned from well-figured Cuban mahogany with a deep, mellow natural patination. The table retains its original 80 cm circular one-piece top — a desirable early feature — and is supported upon an elegant wrythen-turned (angled reeded) column, a detail characteristic of the late George II taste and the refined transitional designs of the 1750s–60s. The downswept legs with pad feet are beautifully shaped, well-balanced, and entirely original, reflecting the restrained sophistication of mid-Georgian craftsmanship. Beneath the top sits a fully original birdcage mechanism, allowing the top to tilt and rotate. The block, pillars, and period locking catch remain intact and undisturbed, with excellent surface consistency throughout.
