Description
This is a superb English striking Mantle Clock, by The Bentima Company, London, with a mechanical pendulum movement built by The Perivale Clock Manufacturing Company (also of London), one of Bentima’s group of clock making brands. (Bentima brought the Perivale business outright in the 1940’s. Having done so, they allowed Perivale to continue operating as a separate clockmaking entity, whilst providing excellent quality movements for Bentima branded clocks, such as for this fabulous timepiece). The clock has a dark Oak ‘lectern’ case with strong graining and patina, with two decoratively hand-carved frontal Oak leaves positioned prominently at the clocks base. The clocks Bentima signed chrome chapter ring lies directly on the case, offering black Arabic numerals and a pair of attractive gold coloured and original Skeleton type hands secured by a threaded collet. The dial is then surrounded and protected by a convex glazed cover mounted in a chrome bezel. The 8-day Perivale striking pendulum movement is a fine example of English clock mechanism engineering. It exhibits excellent design and craftsmanship and is proudly stamped on the lacquered brass backplate with the famous Perivale trademark. (A seated Britannia holding a shield and spear – the version in this clock being used from 1949 onwards). The die-cast alloy lenticular pendulum bob is authentic (and probably original), as is the recessed finished cast metal gong block, all of which help to date the clock to the 1950’s. The clock strikes at the half and top of the hour with the number of hours on its gong, and is sold with its authentic Perivale signed brass winding key. An immaculate clock and a testament to high-class British timepiece craftsmanship!
