A fine Victorian silver table snuff box by admired silversmith Henry William Dee. Superb weight and quality, the beautifully engineered oval box with silver-gilt interior, the silver-gilt lid having an applied open-work cast plaque in the Elizabethan manner with exotic birds, flowers and foliage. ‘Stand away’ hinge and an integral striker for matches on the underside. Hallmarked on the plaque and inside on the lid and the base. Also with a design registration lozenge. A fabulous thing, visually pleasing and tactile.
