This is a charming painting of a harvest scene by John Joseph Hughes (c.1827-1908) dating towards the last quarter of the 19th century. Signed bottom left and inscribed verso. The inscription relates to a view over West Bromwich although the skyline is reminiscent of Oxford viewed from Boar’s Hill. It is probable that English was not the restorer’s first language!
