Description 'John Williamson' (American - 1826-1885) Superb Woodland Landscape Oil Painting This is an exceptionally well-executed Woodland Oil on Relined Canvas Landscape Painting by: 'John Williamson (1826-1885) American Born at Toll Cross, near Glasgow, Scotland, John Williamson emigrated to America as a child (1831). He spent most of his life in Brooklyn. From 1844 to 1847, he attended the National Academy of Design antique class, the life class from 1850 to 1851 and the antique class from 1854 to 1855. In the late 19th century, he became known for his landscapes of the Hudson River Valley and Connecticut. Williamson began exhibiting at the National Academy in 1850, mostly landscapes but also a few genre paintings and also entered some still life. However, most of his paintings were landscapes, including along the Hudson River, Catskills, Adirondacks, White Mountains, Berkshires and into Connecticut. The magnificent scenery depicts an ancient woodland setting, with a lone Lady walking along a small footpath beside a natural pond. The work is almost photographic in its execution! Indeed, Williamson's works have reached estimated prices at auction between $30.000 - $50.000 so this piece represents excellent value for money as well as a brilliant investment opportunity. Mounted within the quality original gilt swept frame and offered in a wonderful condition throughout. The work has been relined/cleaned during the past 20 years or so, and, it is, therefore ready to be hung and enjoyed immediately. | Attributes | Condition | Measurements | Circa 1880-1885 Signed lower right 'J Williamson' Oil Painting on Relined Canvas Mounted within the quality original gilt swept frame and offered in a wonderful condition throughout.
