Nice quality inlaid figured walnut jewellery box made during the mid-late Victorian period in extremely fine condition. Hexagonal inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche and escutcheon with Tunbridge Ware style surrounds set within figured walnut within an outer frame of Tunbridge Ware style bands. Cross grain solid wood edging to the lid and front verticals. All veneer, inlays and edging are original, complete and in superb condition. Lid closes perfectly square on the original hinges. Original lock with a replacement working key supplied. The interior has been skilfully refurbished to serve as a jewellery box. Ruched silk panel within a silk covered frame to the lid interior. Tray comprising of 17 sections 4 of which feature silk covered lids with ornate gilt ring pull knobs. The small sections are ideal for those smaller items of jewellery. Please note the nice finishing touch of the silk top edges of the tray and all of the dividers. Side metal handles to the tray. Storage section beneath the tray with lightly padded silk covered panel to the base for those larger items of jewellery. Made over 140 years ago this item has been given a new lease of life for modern day use. Unpacked weight 1.8Kg
