Description
A very large and impressive mahogany pedestal desk, this has 3 graduated drawers each side and 3 further drawers across the top. The back of the pedestals are carved with the coat of arms of Belize with the motto “Sub Umbra Floreo” which means “I flourish in the shade”. The carving includes the Union Jack, which dates it to the period prior to full independence in 1981 and this desk is probably mid-century, circa 1960. There are carved columns on the outside of the pedestals at both the front and back of the desk. A blue black tooled leather inlaid surface is on the top in three sections and there is an attractive joinery pattern around the edges.
This desk will stand impressively in any room and the decorative backs to the pedestals mean that it is suitable for a central position in a good-sized office. It provides an abundance of surface and drawer space, allowing plenty of work area for computer screens and other office equipment.
Dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1960, this desk is made of mahogany and originates from England.

condition
condition
This is in relatively good age-related condition. There is some damage to the beading at the back of the desktop, on the left side where it meets the pedestals. There are some gaps between the drawer fronts and the bottoms, the largest being in the middle drawer of the desktop. No key is available for the locks. The leather writing surface has some marks from use, but is not ripped and is present in its entirety. There are a few small dints and some discolouration to the wood in places, but nothing major or obtrusive.
