Magnificent North Indian Antique Hand Carved Sandalwood Box Wood Casket, 19th Century India c.1860

This is a magnificent mid 19th-century North Indian antique sandalwood table box/casket. The entire box profusely decorated with hand-carved foliage and animals. The centre of the lid with a palace building with its colonnade and galleries. The motifs are intricately small, dense and highly detailed. Birds (peacocks) hidden amongst the leaves and fruits. The box has a lovely original patina of reddish dark brown. No inscriptions or monograms. It comes with an original antique key, fully working/lockable. The tassel is a later addition. DIMENSION: 29cm x 11.5cm (11 1/2" X 4 1/2"). Height 7cm (2 3/4") approx.
