Born in 1933 and studied at the Bath Academy of Art 1951-55. It was at Corsham, where the BAA was located that Norma was taught by Clifford and Rosemary Ellis who instilled into her the importance of colour and design. She studied painting and printmaking leading to her experimental work of the 1960’s and 70’s. Her lithographs and screen prints date from her time at Corsham She was elected a member of the ROI and the RBA, both of which Societies she was a frequent exhibitor until her retirement. She also exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and provincial galleries and had many one person shows. RA exhibits 1959. 723. Aberdovey 1960. 1189. The haunted house 1962. 767. Corsham School of art is now considered one of the pivotal college’s of the second half of the 20th century. Artist’s such as Peter Lanyon, Henry Cliffe and Peter Potworowski taught there in the 1950’s all of whom taught the young Norma. Chippenham recognized that a solid collection of students and teachers works were an essential feature of their Museum. She was also a fine potter and Batik artist.
