Original Oil on Panel 'fathom' by Robert J. Head 1968. Signed Bottom Right and Inscribed on the Reverse

Fabulous late 1960's oil, Pva and Pastel abstract on board. Loads of Pop art references here and very appealing. This work hasn't been exhibited since it was painted. Provenance; Purchased by me directly from the artist. He was born in East London in 1923 and won a scholarship to Hammersmith School of art. Called up in 1942, he took part in the Normandy landings in 1944. After the war he transferred to the Education Corps and was part of the B.A.O.R. teaching troops and children in Berlin. In 1947 he went to the S.W. Essex school of art where he discovered Anarchism, Vedanta and expressionism. He also played a lot of Jazz. After a period at St Martins school of art, he went to Goldsmiths and started exhibiting. Taught art and painted all of his life living on a small farm in rural Dorset.
