Donald Wells, sculptor, painter and latterly print-maker, was born in Silverdale, Staffordshire. Wells studied at Newcastle-under-Lyme School of Art under Jack Clarkson, an associate of Henry Moore. His first solo exhibition was at the Artists’ International Association Gallery, London in 1962 and during the 1960s he showed in numerous exhibitions in London, including the Drian Gallery, with which he was closely associated for many years. Helima Nalecz 1917-2008, who owned the Drian Gallery made Donald an associate Director. Wells also exhibited at the Arts Council, the Carnegie Institute Pittsburgh, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and Beaux Arts in Bath. In 1999, 2003 and 2005 exhibitions of his work were held at the Harlequin Gallery, London. His output in bronze, plaster, stone & collage is included in numerous public and private collections in Britain, Europe, America and Australia. Provenance; Purchased by me directly from the artist's studio in 2013. He explained that he found an old piece of board and made a grid pattern that included a number of striations in the surface to add texture. Picture size; 25 cm x 34 cm Frame size; 47 cm x 57 cm
