Description
Pair of Mary Gregory cranberry glass vases
This pair of Pair of Mary Gregory cranberry glass vases were made circa 1900.
This genre of work with the delightful white enamel on glass is known as Mary Gregory. It was thought that Mary Gregory who worked at Boston & Sandwich Glass Company first made this but after extensive research this has now been debunked. See Mary Gregory Glassware by R&D Truitt.
The best theory is now that it was made in Bohemia and became a massive industry in that area employing nearly 90,000 in this industry. It was high fashion from 1885 into the 1920’s.
There were various qualities, and most were quickly decorated and poorly finished, these are best to avoid.
I always look to purchase and sell the pieces that were beautifully decorated and are especially charming.
This pair that Iam pleased to offer you I would attribute to Muhlhaus of Haida (Novy Bor, now Czech Republic)
Each vase with a bulbous body and narrow throat standing on a clear glass foot.
The bodies decorated with a young girl with a flute charming a bird and the other with a young girl with a shawl collecting flowers with a song bird looking on
30cms high 12ins
11cms diameter 4 1/4insins
