Description
ARCHIBALD KNOX (1864-1933) FOR LIBERTY & CO - a superb quality and most unusual large Liberty & Co 'CYMRIC' silver and enamel bowl adorned with engraved signatures of bygone actresses. Beautifully formed with four decorated roundels with a typical Knox style Celtic entrelac roundel that is further embellished with blue-green enamel around the main body leading to a pedestal circular foot. These pieces are becoming incredibly rare to find, especially unusual examples such as this. Many famous actresses from the late 1800's/early 1900's signatures are present and adorn the entire bowl making it a most interesting piece of the type I have never come across before. Some of the signatures present; Constance Collier - In a career that covered six decades, Constance Collier evolved into one of Broadway and London's finest tragediennes during the first half of the 1900s Carlotta Addison - Carlotta Addison was born on July 9, 1849 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England. She was an actress, known for The Blue Bird (1910). She was married to Charles A. La Trobe. She died on June 15, 1914, in London, England, along with many other names of famous actresses from the past 100 years. The bowl is hallmarked for Liberty & Co, Birmingham town assay mark, lion passant and date letter 'f' for 1905 and the sought after 'CYMRIC' mark. Impressed style number '2250' to the base In very good condition for its age, a few very minor blemishes but free from repairs or splits. A very tiny area of enamel lifted from one medallion, approx 1mm, negligible but for clarity. A superb, rare, and highly sought-after bowl available from The Art of Quality. This is a real one-off item of larger than average size one normally sees for these types of CYMRIC bowls.! Weight 228gm
