A rare English oak coffer dating to the late 17th century, this has a beautifully carved front and has been fixed to its original stand. It will make a lovely storage box, continuing to be functional over 300 years since it was made.
- Lovely carved frieze front, with flowers and leaves.
- Chip carved corner edges.
- Iron hinges and iron nails visible at the side joints.
- Planked base.
- Turned legs and square stretcher.
- Incised linear design on each side.
- Unfinished back, so that it is meant to stand against a wall.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There is a checking crack across the front of the top with some glue remains visible. The coffer would originally have been removable from the stand, but it has been fixed in place some time later.
