A wonderful piece of Mid Century design history by the famous Stig Lindberg - makes the perfect Christmas Present* In General A very substantial and weighty rare Swedish hand thrown Gustavsberg pottery Faience jug designed by the acclaimed Stig Lindberg circa 1950s Stig Lindberg (1916 - 1982) was one of Sweden's most important post war designers. He was prolific - being not only a ceramic designer but also a glass, textile and industrial designer and a painter and illustrator. He started his career in 1937 at Gustavsberg, the renowned Swedish porcelain company - which originated in 1826 - where he created stunning studio earthenware pottery and ceramics during a long career. A stunning and substantial earthenware jug with a white glaze and hand painted delicate flowers, leaves and butterflies synonymous with Stig Lindberg's famous Faience designs. The jug is signed with 'G' plus the Gustavsberg 'studio hand' and the painter's signature (red star symbol). There is also the faintly impressed Gustavsberg Pottery 'anchor' symbol and the jug is faintly stamped 'Hand Drejad' (hand thrown). The style number of this jug is also marked being 116 F - 10. During the war years, the floral, colourful and soft motifs were very common at Gustavsberg. A terrific opportunity to own a very substantial and beautiful mid century modern piece designed by the famous Stig Lindberg. This piece is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, restoration or defects from use other that some crazing to the glaze on the inside of the neck of the jug albeit other examples seem to be similarly crazed.
