Description
This silver propelling pencil was made by the noted silver firm of Sampson Mordan & Co. of London. The top of the pencil, mounted with banded agate, unscrews to reveal the receptacles for the pencil lead. The extended length is 113 mm (4.5 inches), the retracted length is 88 mm (3.5 inches) and it weighs 12 gms. It is in very good condition. It is stamped with the mark "Sampson Mordan & Co. Makers" which indicates that it dates from the period 1845-52.
