Slightly unusual mid 1800’s inlaid satinwood and mahogany jewellery box in A1 condition. Mahogany to the sides and back with the top and front veneered with satinwood with the characteristic ‘dancing’ grain. A few of the photographs give a general idea of how the colour and grain changes according to the viewing position. Ebony edge trim to the top and all 4 verticals. Inlaid brass cartouche with matching escutcheon. All veneer, edging and inlays are original and are in excellent condition. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock with a replacement working key supplied. The box interior has been refurbished to a high standard. Silk ruched panel set within a silk covered frame to the lid interior. The tray comprises of 10 sections, 2 of which feature silk covered lids with ornate gilt ring pull knobs. Please note the nice finishing touch of the silk covered upper edges of the tray and all of the dividers to complement the lids and inner lid panel. The additional effort reflects the time, skills and consideration of the person that did the refurbishment. Side metal handles to assist in removing the tray to access the storage area beneath that features a lightly covered silk panel to the base. The small storage areas of the tray and large open area of the storage area beneath ensures that this box are ideal for storing both small and large items of jewellery.
