A graduated set of two large late 19th century earthenware dairy bowls stamped Smallbrook. Handmade from earthenware with an internal slip glaze in attractive creamy yellow colour. Smallbrook Potteries were based west of Atherton, Greater Manchester from around 1880-1930s. The larger bowl is stamped, the other is not. Both bowls are in good order and very much useable, alternatively used as a decorative accessory or prop. Perfect for a large country kitchen and a keen baker. The larger bowl has some minor nibbles to the glaze, the smaller has two small hairline cracks affecting the glaze only and one small under rim chip that has timeworn smooth again. The smaller bowl has a handprint externally made in the manufacturing process that makes a great connection to the past, adding to its rustic charm.
