Swiss Federal National Shooting Festival Silver Cup/Goblet Chalice Prize Basel 1879

A very good decorative 800 Silver Cup which was given at the Eidgenössisches Schützenfest ,Swiss Federal National Shooting Festival held in Basel 1879. The festival was first held in 1824 with local festivals dating back centuries earlier.Festivals were held between 1859-1939 at 2 -4 year intervals and continue to this day. Cups and medals were and are awarded as gold,silver,bronze,white metal and aluminium, with silver being the most common however a large proportion of these were melted as bullion and were lost ,as such the Cups which were made in smaller numbers are extremely rare to find. A really stylish item which has a Gothic Revival ,,Arts and Crafts and Aesthetic Movement feel about it.
