1 Fine Art Victorian 19th Century Oil Painting Scottish Highlands Castle Drinking Loch Pastoral After Clarence Henry Roe. Subject Scottish Highland pastoral scene with Longhorn cattle. Oil on board. In the style of similar to after Clarence Henry Roe. Signed by the known British school Victorian artist B Ward, the frame obscures some of the signature. He exhibited with the Royal Academy between 1875-1893. This painting has tremendous perspective, with impressive views of the Scottish Highland mountains in the background with a peaceful blue sky, in the foreground you can see ancient stone rock boulders by the Loch shoreline, in the center 2 Longhorn cattle are in the water, one is drinking while the other is standing nearby watching, to the left is a lonely tree, to the right foliage creeping out next to another boulder. Clarence Roe was born in 1850 and was the eldest son of Robert Henry Roe, a famous Victorian painter. He was a celebrated highland landscape painter whose paintings have sold in the biggest and the best auction houses. Clarence Roe had the potential to be one of the greatest British painters of the Victorian era, though very sadly he ended his life in a Yorkshire asylum as alcoholic suffering from delusions and hallucinations in 1909.
