We have for sale an unusual and very striking, decorative flame mahogany veneered Victorian Tabernacle cabinet. This rather stunning mid to late Victorian Tabernacle cabinet is constructed out of veneered oak and consists of eight(8)small drawers around a central cupboard between a pair of pillars and surmounted by a Moorish influenced arch, with yet a further two secret drawers, one above the other drawers and central cupboard and one below the central cupboard. Opening the central cupboard reveals yet another surprise, the floor of the cupboard is decorated with marquetry giving the impression of an exquisitely tiled floor. The Cabinet is presented on a slightly later but very well matched if not tailored to fit stand. Judging by the Moorish influenced arch, the cabinet dates to around 1880. It was probably made for a private chapel and possibly stood on a table before being later moved to its own very well matched stand. The cabinet comes with its original key, which is disguised as a wooden door knob. Tabernacle cabinets were made to house the consecrated Eucharist, with the name Tabernacle referring to the location of God's presence, thus in this case the marquetry floor found in the central cupboard would have been designed to give the impression of a tiled temple floor. This lovely piece of decorative furniture is approximately 49 inches (124cm) high including the stand, 35.5 inches (90cm) long and 18 inches (45.5cm) deep. The Tabernacle cabinet is generally in a very good un-restored condition, although there is a crack in the right hand cupboard door along with a small loss of beading. Other than that there is some widening of the joints between the veneer in the top and some minor wear around the edges of the drawers.
